Sacred Temple Dance

In ancient times, many cultural societies used dance as a spiritual practice. Today, in our modern day world, we draw upon these ancient dance forms for inspiration, activation and empowerment.

It is an art-form closely related to the art of love, a means of nonverbal communication that moves beyond spoken language to communicate through movements and gestures - it tells a story, expresses emotion and evokes eroticism.

Dance can be experienced as a sacred celebration of life to embody the Divine.  As a spiritual practice, it is a powerful vehicle that moves us throughout life to create positive change for ourselves, each other and ultimately for the world.

“In sacred dance, we are reawakening memories from the ancient past, when we danced as temple priestesses for healing, pleasure and transformation. I feel it is a divine remembrance from deep within the cells to activate our unique gifts as we dance the path of Alchemy. We are recreating ourselves with each breath we take and with every movement we birth a new beginning.  Sacred Dance is a Prayer in Motion  to embrace and embody the Divine"  – Maryanne Savino

"Sacred Dance is intrinsic to most women as a form of expression rather than for performance.  Many women have become disconnected from their bodies, I believe that dance is a meditative, healing, and empowering way to reconnect to the sacred and creative parts of themselves.

It bridges the sexual/spiritual gap that most women have lost, touching all levels of existence; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Through the power of Sacred Dance we can tap into inherent primordial movements- it's as ancient as creation itself."

Serpent & the Wave ~ A Sensual Journey through Breath & Movement

Serpent & the Wave is much more than a movement practice - it is a way of life that activates and explores your inner feminine qualities - softness, fluidity, nurturing, flowing, sensuality and receptivity.  Fixed postures deny us of  our feminine power.  The movements are fluid and more yin-like, with less structure and without force. Through an integration of breath awareness and  undulating serpentine wave motion, your innate wisdom will guide you to explore and deepen into each movement according to your own specific needs. The wave motion stimulates the fluid systems in the body, thereby creating healing on multiple levels.

Sensation is a pathway to pleasurable embodiment and self connection.  Like the snake, we shed our skin of old limiting patterns and move out of stagnation into liberation, and through the motion of the oceanic wave, we are cleansed and renewed to feel more deeply and fully in body.
This unique practice offers wonderful opportunities to awaken, unfold, grow and transform so that we can move through life with more joy, ease and greater awareness.

"When the mind is relaxed, the body is eased of tension. By surrendering and allowing, we then have the ability to create spatial freedom in our bodies and in our lives.”
